Letters to the Editor

Editor,

I witnessed an almost tragic accident recently when a boy, around 6, on a bike darted into Coates Avenue because the older girl he was with blew the stop sign and beckoned him to follow, despite there being cars coming in both directions. Luckily the drivers were alert and slowed down, but sadly this is a common occurrence because too many Monticello children either don’t know or don’t follow basic bike safety rules. Parents, please be sure your child knows to ride single file, WITH traffic, to obey all traffic signs (bikers can be issued a ticket for not stopping at a stop sign) and to use proper arm signals when turning. Be sure to check for cars when crossing to the other side of the road. When biking at night, have working headlights, taillights and wear light colored clothing. Biking is a tremendous life long activity, please make it a safe one.

Mary Winn,

Monticello

It was a beautiful morning, with 50 people coming out to support the run/walk. Many parents also enjoyed the opportunity to take their children in strollers on the peaceful route of Village Road.

Another huge thank you to everyone that donated toward the benefit and all of the volunteers that helped in so many ways.

Thank you,

Argyle/Adams Lutheran Churches and Laura Anderson, Event Coordinator
