Yaun Headed to State

Andy Yaun is headed to the state track meet for the Monticello Track and Field team. He will be competing in the 400 meter dash.
Competing for the Monticello Track and Field team at the state meet will be junior Andy Yaun, in the boys 400 meter dash. Yaun was the only Monticello competitor to make it through sectionals where he placed third with a time of 52.12.
The WIAA Division 3 Sectional Championship Meet was held at Bangor on Wednesday, May 29.
Junior Ashley Risley took ninth place in the girls 1600 meter run with a time of 5:57.41.
Risley also ran the girls 3200 meter run where she took 11th place with a time of 13:19.69.
Senior John Zuber finished seventh in the boys 800 meter run at 2:06.80.
Senior Dylan Beckwith placed 15th in the boys 1600 meter run with a time of 5:04.79.
In the boys 300 meter hurdles, senior Thorin Croushore took 10th place at 45.12.
Taking 12th in the boys 4x400 meter relay was the team of Beckwith, Croushore, sophomore Max Hoffmaster, and Yaun.
Beckwith, senior David Ruegsegger, Zuber and Yaun placed 11th in the boys 4x800 meter relay with a time of 8:56.33.
Overall, the boys finished in 24th place with eight points.
Earlier that week on Tuesday, May 26, the Monticello team competed in the WIAA Division 3 Track and Field Regional at Cuba City, where the top four competitors moved on to sectionals.
In the girls 100 meter dash, junior Emilie Gietzel placed seventh at 14.34 while teammate, senior Mackenzie Zanow took 16th.
Zanow then placed sixth in the girls 400 meter dash with a time of 1:10.42.
Risley earned fourth place in the girls 1600 meter run at 5:59.46, and senior Lily Blum took sixth at 6:44.30.
Risley then finished in fourth in the 3200 meter run with a time of 13:27.99 while Blum again took fifth at 13:42.60.
The girls 4x100 meter relay team of Blum, Gietzel, junior Marquel Hawthorn and senior Natalie Lehr placed fifth with a time of 58.92, just seconds shy of sectionals.
Lehr earned 18th place in the girls long jump.
Junior Emily Koch took 14th place in the girls shot put, and teammate, junior Kalyn Lackey, took 15th.
Lackey then placed 17th in the girls discus throw while Lackey took 19th.
Hoffmaster competed in the boys 100 meter dash, taking sixth place with a time of 12.27.
Yaun won the boys 400 meter dash at 53.18, and Zuber won the boys 800 meter run with a time of 2:05.08.
Beckwith earned fourth in the boys 1600 meter run at 5:13.30 while Ruegsegger took 10th.
Finishing second in the boys 300 meter hurdles was Croushore at 45.15.
The team of Beckwith, Croushore, Hoffmaster and Yaun placed second in the boys 4x400 meter relay with a time of 3:42.82.
In the boys 4x800 meter relay, Beckwith, Ruegsegger, Zuber and Yaun took third at 9:17.34.
Junior Bryss Shover finished 11th in the boys shot put, and Hoffmaster finished in 22nd place.
Shover took 23rd in the boys discus throw while freshman Austin Blumer took 24th.
Overall, the boys finished in sixth place with 50 points, and the girls finished in eighth place with 26.
On Monday, May 18, the Monticello Track and Field teams participated in the Six Rivers Conference Championship meet at Platteville.
Overall, the boys finished fifth with 57 points while the girls finished seventh, with 32 points.
Gietzel took fifth in the 100 meter dash at 14.22 with Hawthorn and senior Hallie Chicker competing in this event as well.
In the 200 meter dash, Zanow placed ninth.
Zanow and Gietzel placed 10th and 11th in the 400 meter dash.
Earning third place in the 1600 meter run was Risley, with a time of 6:09.91, while Blum took eighth at 6:30.60.
Risley then went on to take second in the 3200 meter run at 13:17.72, and Blum earned fifth place at 13:34.50.
The 4x100 meter relay team of Chicker, Lehr, Zanow and Gietzel placed third with a time of 1:01.51.
The 4x200 meter relay team didn't do as well, placing sixth with a time of 2:17.91; the team was made up of Hawthorn, Koch, Risley and Lehr.
Lehr took 14th place in the long jump.
Koch and Lackey placed ninth and 11th in the shot put; Lackey took 11th in the discus while Koch placed 12th.
On the boys side, Hoffmaster placed seventh in the 100 meter dash at 12.23 while Shover and Blumer also competed for the Ponies.
Yaun took fifth in the 200 meter dash at 25.06, and Hoffmaster ran this event as well.
Yaun then won the 400 meter dash with a time of 54.92; teammate Ruegsegger earned 11th place.
Earning a second place finish in the 800 meter run was Zuber at 2:12.06, and Ruegsegger ran this event also.
In the 1600 meter run, Zuber finished second with a time of 4:55.00, and Beckwith took seventh at 5:16.78 while Ruegsegger placed ninth at 5:34.47.
Beckwith earned fifth place in the 3200 meter run with a time of 11:29.54.
Croushore placed fourth in the 110 meter hurdles at 18.75, and he took third in the 300 meter hurdles with a time of 47.07.
Finishing second with a time of 3:47.49 was the 4x400 meter relay team of Croushore, Zuber, Yaun and Hoffmaster.
In the long jump, Croushore took 11th, and Beckwith took 16th.
Shover earned a ninth place finish in the shot put at a distance of 37-04.00, and Blumer threw shot too; additionally, these two competed in the discus throw with Shover taking 14th.
