Raiders Soccer Team Ranked Fourth in State in Division Three

 


In poll rankings for April 27th, the Belleville/New Glarus Raiders were ranked 4th in the state in Division 3.

Another week of play leaves the Raiders with a record of 10 wins and 2 losses, and leading the Capital Conference. A week of back-to-back road games found the team winning a conference match and losing by a goal to a strong rival in Mount Horeb.

On April 27th, the Raiders had the difficult task of traveling to Mount Horeb to take on a team that has finished 2nd in the State Championship in 2014 and 2013, and ranks at #2 in the State poll, two spots ahead of the Raiders. In a heartbreaking loss, the Raiders fell to the Vikings by a score of 1 to 0. The team kept the match close and displayed perseverance and great teamwork as they were tested by the speed of the Mount Horeb offense. Senior goalkeeper Paige Natzke recorded 12 saves on the night and had a strong game for the Raiders. Final: Mount Horeb 1, Sugar River 0.

On April 28th, the Raiders were back on the road to take on Capital Conference opponent Poynette/Portage. The game provided the opportunity for most of the Raiders players to participate in the game and for many players to try different positions on the field.

Scoring for the Raiders were seniors Jamie Ott and Hannah Donlin, juniors Brooke Larson, Taylor Legler, Vanessa Narveson and Nicole Sanders, while freshman Aimee Sies also added to the score. The Raider defense recorded their seventh shutout of the season. Final score: Raiders 7, Poynette/Portage 0.
