Monticello Track and Field Team Competes at Cuba City, Black Hawk
The Ponies track and field team traveled to Cuba City on Thursday, April 30, to take part in the Christopher Becker Memorial Invite. Overall, the girls placed 10th out of 14 teams, and the boys took ninth place out of 15 teams.
Marquel Hawthorn, Natalie Lehr and Hallie Chicker ran the 100 meter dash while Lehr also ran the 200 meter dash.
Competing in the 400 meter dash for Monticello was Emilie Gietzel and Ashley Risley. Risley and Blum ran the 1600 meter run, and Risley placed fourth in the 3200 meter run with a time of 13:38.44, while Blum took sixth at 13:57.13.
The 4x100 meter relay team of Gietzel, Chicker, Lehr, and Mackenzie Zanow placed 11th with a time of 1:00.59.
Additionally, Lehr participated in the long jump, and Samantha Gierhart and Emily Koch competed in shot put and discus throw.
For the boys, Max Hoffmaster ran the 100 meter dash and finished in 14th place.
Andy Yaun took fourth place in the 200 meter dash with a time of 24.78, and Hoffmaster competed in this event as well. Yaun then took second in the 400 meter dash at 52.65 while Ruegsegger and Hoffmaster ran this race as well.
In the 800 meter run, John Zuber ran to a third place finish with a time of 2:10.48, and Dylan Beckwith and Ruegsegger took 10th and 18th place.
Zuber then took fourth in the 1600 meter run at 4:52.78, and Beckwith finished 14th.
Thorin Croushore placed sixth in the 110 meter hurdles and eighth in the 300 meter hurdles.
The 4x400 meter relay team of Beckwith, Ruegsegger, Yaun and Zuber finished in sixth place with a time of 3:51.12.
Croushore competed in the long jump, Hoffmaster and Shover participated in the shot put, and Shover and Austin Blumer participated in the discus throw.
Earlier that week the Monticello track and field team participated in the Black Hawk Invite on Tuesday, April 28, at South Wayne, Wis. The girls team finished sixth out of six teams while the boys team took second.
For the girls, Gietzel, Lehr and Chicker participated in the 100 meter dash while Lehr, Zanow and Chicker competed in the 200 meter dash.
Risley took fifth in the 400 meter run with a time of 1:15.27, and Blum placed sixth at 1:18.00. Risley then won the 1600 meter run at 6:10.56 while Blum finished in fifth.
The 4x100 meter relay team of Gietzel, Hawthorn, Zanow and Lehr placed sixth with a time of 1:01.11.
In the 4x400 meter relay, Chicker, Gierhart, Kalyn Lackey and Koch ran to a third place finish at 5:05.55.
Lackey, Gierhart and Koch participated in the shot put and discus as well for the Ponies while Lehr competed in the long jump.
On the boys side, Hoffmaster placed fourth in the 100 meter dash at 12.34; he also took fourth in the 200 meter dash where teammate Croushore placed sixth.
Yaun won the 400 meter run with a time of 54.74, and right behind him was Zuber in second place at 56.34. Ruegsegger took seventh in this event while Hoffmaster took eighth.
Beckwith placed third in the 110 meter hurdles and 300 meter hurdles.
The 4x400 meter relay team of Beckwith, Ruegsegger, Shover, and Blumer won the event with a time of 3:52.90.
Winning the 4x800 meter relay with a time of 9:16.00 was the team of Blumer, Shover, Ruegsegger, and Yaun.
In the shot put, Shover placed second with a distance of 36-00.00 while Blumer and Hoffmaster competed in this event as well. Shover and Blumer participated in the discus too.
Yaun placed third in the long jump with a distance of 16-03.75, and Croushore placed eighth at 15-07.00
