Monticello Dominates River Ridge/Cassville
On Thursday, April 30, the Monticello softball team defeated River Ridge/Cassville 11-1 on the road.
Courtney Leuzinger threw a no-hitter for the Ponies.
“The Ponies scored three runs in the first four innings, and Leuzinger was mowing them down, facing the minimum 12 batters through four innings; then, the bats came alive in the fifth and sixth scoring four in both frames,” stated Head Coach Duane Garrison.
On Tuesday, April 28, the Ponies edged Argyle for the win 7-6.
“The Ponies started out hot again by scoring two runs in the first and three runs in the second. Most of the runs came on two homeruns by Sam DeVoe, and then, we scored two more in the fourth on a two-run homer by Leuzinger. From there, the Ponies held on for the victory,” Garrison explained.
Leading hitters were DeVoe who went four for four with two homeruns and Leuzinger who went two for three with one homerun.
A day earlier on Monday, April 27, the Ponies lost to Juda/Albany 4-1.
Leading hitters were Jordan Garrison, who was two for four, and Leuzinger who was two for two.
“The Ponies started quick with a lone run in the first with singles by Jordan Garrison and DeVoe. Then an RBI single was hit by Alyssah Kubly,” Garrison stated. “It stayed that way until the top of the fifth when Juda scored three runs all coming with two outs. The Ponies had their chances, but were shut down by Juda’s freshman pitcher.”
