Ponies Dismantled by Chieftains

 


The Monticello baseball team played a doubleheader on the road at Potosi on Friday, April 24.

The Ponies were dismantled by the Chieftains in the first game 15-1 and 23-1 in the second game.

In the first game, Monticello had one run and one hit while Potosi had 15 runs off 11 hits.

Monticello’s only hit came from Trent Siegenthaler, who hit a double.

On the mound pitching the first two innings and one out was Logan Marty; he gave up nine hits, 15 runs, 14 earned runs along with striking out two and walking nine.

Jake Pusel then took over. He gave up two hits and no runs while walking one and striking out two.

In the second game, Monticello had one run and six hits; Potosi had 23 runs and 15 hits.

Pusel threw the ball the first two innings where he gave up nine hits, 14 runs, eight earned runs and walked four and struck out one.

Billy Spahr pitched the next two innings. He gave up five hits, five runs, and zero earned runs. He walked two and struck out two.

Pitching in the last inning for the Ponies was Travis McCoy, giving up one hit, four runs, zero runs, two strikeouts, and no walks.

Pusel went three for three offensively with a double and a run.

On Tuesday, April 21, Monticello lost to Black Hawk 5-1. Monticello had one run and four hits.

Pitching was Siegenthaler, who went the distance and gave up five runs, zero earned runs, and six hits; he walked two and struck out ten.

Pusel was the offensive leader going two for two with two walks and two stolen bases.
