Monticello Loses to Potosi
On Friday, April 24, the Monticello softball team faced off against Potosi in rainy conditions. The Ponies lost 25-16.
“Playing in rainy conditions the whole game did not help either pitcher as there was a combined 29 walks and a lot of errors on both sides,” explained Head Coach Duane Garrison. “We trailed 18-16 going into the bottom of the sixth, and the Chieftains erupted for seven more runs. Courtney Leuzinger took the loss for the Ponies.”
Leading the offense was Courtney Leuzinger with three RBIs and going three for four while Alyssah Kubly was also three for four with three RBIs. Jessie Garrison contributed three RBIs going three for four and hitting two doubles.
On Tuesday, April 21, the Ponies defeated Black Hawk, 11-3.
“Jessie Garrison pitched well for being her first start of the year: she allowed only two hits while walking seven and striking out four,” said Garrison. “We scored four in the first to give her a lead, and she made it stand the rest of the game.”
Offensively, Courtney Leuzinger was perfect going four for four, hitting three doubles and having three RBIs. Sam Devoe was two for four.
