On Tuesday, April 21, the Belleville baseball team matched up against Columbus where the Wildcats were defeated 8-2.
John Gorski pitched the loss for the Wildcats; he was on the mound for five innings and one out, giving up 10 hits, six runs, five earned runs; walking one; and striking out four. Scott Schwoegler finished out that inning for Belleville: he gave up one hit, one run, one earned run while walking one and striking out one. Up for the next inning was Cash Hoffman. Hoffman gave up one hit, one run, one earned run while walking one and striking out zero.
Offensively, Jacob Hackman was one for three with two RBIs coming off a two-out single to right field while Schwoegler was two for three with a double and one run. Drew Shrader went one for three with one run.
“Gorski and the Wildcat defense held the Cardinals in check for four plus innings. The Cardinals’ bats got going in the fifth and sixth innings though as they scored six runs in those two frames,” stated Head Coach Jon Benash. “It took the Wildcats a bit longer to get their bats going as they finally scratched two runs across the plate in the bottom of the seventh.”
