Performances Teach Kids About Using Energy Wisely
Getting kids excited about electricity and how to use it wisely requires creativity and humor. To help get the message across, New Glarus Utilities sponsored live performances by The National Theatre for Children at New Glarus Elementary School. The 25-minute play was performed on April 14, for grades Kindergarten through 4.
During "The Energized Guyz: Daylight Savings Crime," students learned that store owner Norman Blandsky (Nikki Neutron's secret identity) has a problem. He's running out of light bulbs because people buy so many of them – and it's all because the evil Dragonfly is encouraging people to waste energy. In fact, the more people who use energy unwisely, the bigger Dragonfly gets. It's up to Nikki to learn all he can about energy and energy resources to save the day.
New Glarus Utilities sponsors the performances in coordination with the community's not-for-profit power supplier, WPPI Energy.
"National Theatre for Children puts on a show that's as entertaining as it is educational," said Scott Jelle, Director of Public Works. "It's fun to see the kids laughing while they're learning."
