Soccer Team Opens Season With Two Wins

Sugar River hosted a non-conference game against Evansville on August 23rd, winning 4-1.
All four of Sugar River's goals were scored in the first half of the game. Jack Gentilli scored six minutes into the game and Gentilli assisted Justin Knoebl with the next goal on a free kick that bounced off Evansville's defenders. Jacob Krantz, assisted by Nathan Downing scored six minutes later and at minute 44, Jaden Kreklow put the ball in the net, taking on multiple defenders on the way. Evansville scored near the end of the game.
Goalkeeper Julian Lutz had two saves.
Coach Kyle Webber noted that, "Boys played extremely well tonight against a strong Evansville team."
On Saturday, August 25th, the team played a non-conference game at Janesville Parker, pulling out a huge win, 11-0.
"Good game for the boys," said Webber. "Great movement. They were fun to watch."

Nine of Sugar River's goals came in the first half. Less than 3 minutes into the game, Jack Gentilli, assisted by Justin Knoebl, scored the first goal and Gentilli scored again about 30 seconds later. Charlie Douma scored three goals, assisted once by Austin Leibundgut and once by Tyler Lueschow, Connor DeLorme scored two goals, Justin Knoebl scored, assisted by Bryson Jelle, and Jelle then scored a goal assisted by Knoebl.
The two goals in the second half were scored less than a minute apart. Jack Gentilli, assisted by Jack Nolden, scored and shortly thereafter Nolden scored the final goal unassisted.
Julian Lutz and Dylan Posthuma played at goalkeeper, with Posthuma recording one save.
The team is now 2-0.
Sugar River hosted Beloit Memorial on August 28th, will play at Wisconsin Heights on August 30th and will participate in the Big Foot Invitational on September 1st.
