Green County 4-H Senior Dairy Judging Team Takes First at State

For the first time in 27 years, the Green County 4-H Senior Dairy Judging Team took 1st Place at the State 4-H Dairy Judging Contest. The contest was held on Monday, July 16th, in Black River Falls. Senior team members were Clayton Mahlkuch, Cole Mahlkuch, Brian McCullough and Rachel McCullough, all from the Juda Jolly Juniors 4-H club. These youth will represent Wisconsin at the National 4-H Dairy Judging Contest held at World Dairy Expo in Madison this October.

In the individual standings, Green County gave another strong showing with Cole Mahlkuch in 7th, Brian McCullough in 8th, Clayton Mahlkuch in 9th and Rachel McCullough in 38th overall.

In the Reasons category, where youth must give oral reasons for ranking the cattle the way they did, the Green County Senior Team placed 2nd overall, 1-point behind Kewaunee County. For individual reasons results, Clayton Mahlkuch placed 10th, Brian McCullough placed 13th, Cole Mahlkuch placed 17th and Rachel McCullough placed 44th overall.

Green County won the Breed Award for Milking Shorthorns and placed 3rd in Holsteins.

Averey Marean of the Juda Jolly Juniors 4-H club placed 2nd in the showmanship competition.

Deven Gilson of the York 4-H club also represented Green County as an individual at the competition in the junior contest, placing 36th overall.
