Blackhawk Students Shine at Post-Secondary Agricultural Student Competition
BTC earns 21 award certificates allowing 15 students to qualify for the National PAS Conference this month

Blackhawk Technical College's chapter of the Post-Secondary Agriculture Students Organization (PAS) cleaned up at the most recent Wisconsin PAS competition, earning 21 total award certificates including seven total first place finishes and four second place honors. The strong showing qualified 15 BTC students to attend the national conference in Louisville, Kentucky.
Brianna Sheehan, Orfordville, earned three individual first place spots in the three different categories, including Impromptu Speaking, Prepared Speaking and Dairy Production/Employment Interview.
Additional multiple award winners included Karly Ready, New Glarus, (first place in Agricultural Education/Employment Interview and second place in Impromptu Speaking), Colleen Toberman, Orfordville, (first place in Career Planning in Horticulture and Natural Resources and second place in Fertilizer and Agriculture Chemical/Employment Interview), and Maddie Gallagher, Darlington, (first place in Agribusiness Sales/Employment Interview and second place in Agricultural Sales Presentation/Demonstration).
Other students who earned a top three honor were Travis Skattum, Gratiot, (first place in Agricultural Sales Presentation/Demonstration) and Carly Arneson, Monroe, (second place in Agricultural Education/Employment Interview).
Thirteen of the 15 students who qualified for the national conference will be attending, including Brianna Sheehan, Alex Fenrick, Carly Arneson, Karly Ready, Travis Skattum, Rachel Elsing, Danielle Schneider, Jake Kalscheur, MJ Raab, Maddie Gallagher, Laura Prentice, Katie Raskovic and Joe Parr.
The National PAS Organization has more than 6,000 members from 57 chapters located in 18 states. PAS is available to students in Post-Secondary Agriculture, Agribusiness, and Natural Resource Programs in 550 technical colleges in all 50 states.
The PAS mission is to provide opportunities for individual growth, leadership and career planning through participation in employment experience programs, course work and PAS activities.
