Neighborhood Watch Program in Monticello
April 5, 2018
Monticello Police Chief Szvon Conway sent the Post Messenger Recorder the following information about the Neighborhood Watch Program in Monticello:
One of the oldest methods of crime prevention is a neighborhood watch program, which has proven to be successful in eliminating opportunities for criminals. If law enforcement isn't aware of a problem, they can't help. In addition, police can't be in a thousand places at once and with residents armed with cell phones there are more eyes and ears out there to help combat crime. In addition, this opens the communication between the residents and the Police Department, which makes it a more connected community. This also affords the opportunity for residents to bring up anything on their mind and to work together to come up with an action plan; such as, vehicle safety concerns, animal issues, parking issues, and drug activity, just to name a few.
Most recently Neighborhood Watch requested a program on Human Trafficking, which was provided by the Police Department. Neighborhood Watch learned about the indicators of Human Trafficking and how to report anonymously. Next month they requested a program on Internet Safety, which will also be provided by the Police Department. Education is prevention.
As always, be vigilant, if you see something, say something.
As a reminder, the Monticello Neighborhood Watch Program meets every fourth Tuesday at 5:00 p.m., at the Monticello Village Hall Conference room. For more information, you can follow us on Facebook at "Monticello Police Wisconsin."
