Community Night Out at Veterans Park
July 6, 2017
On a beautiful summer evening, family and friends gathered at Veterans Park in New Glarus for Community Night Out at Veterans Park. The New Glarus Youth Baseball Association partnered with the Madison Mallards to provide a wonderful night of baseball. The New Glarus Fire and Police Departments were onsite, there was a bounce house, face painting provided by Monroe Girl Scout Troop 3217 and a dunk tank. The Madison Mallards staff called the second of two games, including all the entertainment between innings.
To commemorate the 73rd Anniversary of the D-Day landings at Normandy, an Honor Guard from the New Glarus American Legion and Auxiliary Post #141 presented The Colors prior to the 7:30 p.m. game. Both New Glarus 8th Grade teams stood on the foul lines with hat over heart as the Honor Guard made their way to the center of the infield, with the National Anthem being sung by our very own Casey Umhoefer. A Blackhawk helicopter, flown by the Wisconsin National Guard, gave the crowd a thrill with not one, but two, fly-bys in the early innings.
The end result of the game was irrelevant. What's important is our Veterans were honored and the entire Community had a great time at the ball park.
NGYBA had a lot of help to ensure the night was a success. Culver's mascot, Scoopy, was at the park as was our New Glarus Knight. Thank You to all our sponsors including the Madison Mallards, Absolute Interiors, Hoesly's Meats, Midwest Dental, Glarner Bier Haus, Storm Guard, New Glarus True Value Hardware, New Glarus FFA, Disch Trucking, and Tofflers Bar and Grill. A very special THANK YOU to Sub-Zero of Madison which donated a wonderful, brand-new refrigeration unit (pictured left) for the Concessions Stand to help keep food and beverages cold during hot summer baseball seasons for years to come.
Thank you all for a great night!
Sincerely,
New Glarus Youth Baseball Association
