Approaching the half-way point of the cross country year, we see solidification of the top spots on the New Glarus-Monticello team. For the boys side, Kyle Fredrickson (season best=17:00), Christian Arnett (17:46), Adam Nelson (18:17) and Andrew Newberry (19:38) anchor the upper four positions.  The next five placings remain fluid, with Cade Beutler (18:43), Garrett Grossen (20:34), Colin McNulty (20:50), Kellan Zweifel (21:26) and Jonathan Truttman (21:37) rotating in team standing.  The revolving continues when looking at junior varsity.  Fastest time to date produced by Ryan Austin (22:07), followed by Lucas Fink (22:17), Simon Blohowiak (22:35), Levi Dearth (23:24) and Cole Runde (23:40).

The NGM'ers choose to run at large and tough invitationals.  Often team placement is not impressive.  What is unseen is the gradual improvement by key individuals.  At the Belleville Wildcat Invitational, for example, the varsity boys placed fourth of ten teams.  However, in two of the top six positions freshman boys displaced senior boys.  That type of success further motivates the young runners and is answered by a drop in time from the older guys.

In our ladies division, Gabbie Sawyer (20:15) and Gabby Whistler (22:50) anchor the first and second position.  Molly Molencamp (23:08) usually earns third, with sister Jenna Molencamp (24:48) often behind.  Kelly Fredrickson (24:48) trades off between three and four then Rebecca Barr (25:48), Walela Three-Sticks (26:11) and Brooke Dreyfus (29:33) usually own the remaining spots.

The girls team continues to search for the Saturday morning in which all of the team members produce a personal best.  It may take another week for the latest round of colds and seasonal allergies to pass.

This coming Saturday, the team travels to Fennimore for the Eagle Relays.  Historically our team does well at that event at the true half-way mark of the CC year.
