New Glarus Lions Club Celebrates 75 Years of Service

Entertainment for the 75th Anniversary was provided by Tony Zgraggen, Heinz Mattmann and George Albright.
The New Glarus Lions Club celebrated 75 years of service to the community with an event at Edelweiss Chalet Country Club on Saturday, August 13, 2016.
Entertainment for the evening was provided by Tony Zgraggen and alphorn players George Albright and Heinz Mattmann. During the program, Melvin Jones Fellowships were presented to Larry Hauge and Richard Arn.
The guest speaker was Peter Cerniglia, who was elected to serve a two-year term as a director of The International Association of Lions Clubs at the association's 84th International Convention, held in Indianapolis in 2001.
The New Glarus Lions Club was sponsored by the Edgerton Lions Club on August 18, 1941.
Since then the New Glarus Lions Club has sponsored other Lions Clubs, some of whom had members in attendence at the Anniversary Celebration.
From 1956 through 2016, the New Glarus Lions Club has presented 110 individual scholarships totalling nearly $50,000. Currently there are four $750 scholarships awarded annually.
