Years lived in district: My husband, Kevin, and I have been married for 16 years. We have three children, Nolan (7th Grade), Haley (5th Grade), and Harper (Kindergarten). We both work full-time. Kevin is an Electrician at UW Hospital and I am a Social Worker with Dane County Department of Human Services. We moved to New Glarus seven years ago. We chose to make New Glarus our home solely based on the positive reputation of the New Glarus School District. We were immediately welcomed by so many amazing people in our community and have developed positive connections with so many through our family's love of sports.
Incumbent? No
Why are you running for school board? All children deserve an education that meets their individual needs and supports them to reach their full potential. I believe parents are the experts on their child(ren). New Glarus has some of the most dedicated and caring administration and teachers; they bring knowledge and expertise of child development and educational curriculum. Working together, parents and educational staff can help each child succeed. I would encourage and welcome direct communication with families and community members, listen to strengths and challenges, and advocate for the well-being and success of all children. Working together, we will be the best team for children in our community.
What issues do you find most important to the school board? How would you handle these issues? I believe the most important issue for any school district is to provide an education that prepares children to be successful, contributing members of the community. To achieve this, the following must remain the priority of the New Glarus School District: core curriculum that prepares children for future opportunities in post-secondary education, military services, trade schools, and employment; recruitment and retention of quality staff; extra-curricular opportunities, supported by space and facilities, that allow children to develop interests, gain confidence, and connect with peers; fiscally responsible budget; strong value system.
I would handle all issues that come before the school board with respect, a willingness to listen and learn, a team approach, and a goal oriented mindset. The children of New Glarus are our future leaders and community members! They need school board members who team well with New Glarus School District Administration and staff, connect with parents, and are a voice for the community. We need board members with a mindset that every child can and will succeed in New Glarus!
