At long last, after 18 months of world domination by COVID-19, we finally have a new ruler in this small segment of our world. The 2019-2020 Sugar River Euchre League Championship match was played last Thursday night at the Norsk Golf Club between the Norsk Cowboys (1st half winners) and the Harley Blue Express (2nd half winners).

The effects of the long layoff was apparent throughout the night as both teams struggled off and on. None struggled more than Harold Schlimgen and Dave Willborn. These Cowboys ended the night with a 66 after securing just one point in the 8th frame. Dave Steinhauer and Dale Herfel (a couple of want to be engineers for team Express) also discovered their coal shovels weren't big enough to throw more than one chunk of coal into the boiler in the 5th frame. They did finish better than Dave and Dale overall though, ending the night with a 96. Shawn Farrell and Steve Hoffmaster shoveled the most coal with a 106 chunks, followed by Express couples Tracy Haag and Charlie Steinhauer, and Opie Taylor and John Scheidegger, who each managed to add another 99 chunks of coal. This gave the Express the win with a total of 400 points.

For the Cowboys, Randy Schmid and Dean Disch contributed the most with an even 100 points. Ferdie Schmitz and Marvin Thompson closely trailed them with 98 points. Roger Olstad and Don Field added another 85 points giving the Cowboys a total of 349 points, 51 points short of victory.

The 2021-2022 regular season will start on October 14th.
