Your body completely rebuilds muscle tissues monthly. That is why a training cycle is considered four weeks. Last Saturday marks our sport's fourth week of in-season training. Might we not expect to see noticeable improvement in our young athletes? And, Saturday races occur on a flat, fast course.

Tommy Nelson remarks, "Spring Green: my favorite meet because it's fast and challenging. You know it's fast when it's on a golf course."

Annika Ziperski explains, "Our girls team had doubts about racing at Spring Green in the large school race, but we knew our talent would prove we belonged in the that race. We had JV and Varsity girls smiling, breaking personal records, celebrating others' success, and pushing themselves more than ever!"

Girl's Captain, Dayna Karls, explains, "This course is fast and flat, so I knew times would be a lot lower than previous hilly races. I was super excited to see that I broke 21 minutes for the first time ever. The girls Varsity team got fourth place in the large school division and beat all but one school in our sectional, which is super exciting."

The New Glarus-Monticello runners start with Optimism and finish with Excitement. The excitement of knowing they ran season best times.

Check the drop in these JV girls times: Ella Skidmore (-4:23), Amalia Morrison (-3:17), Abi Burk (-1:39), Ruthie Zuber (-1:30), Anya Brenkman (-1:13), Juniper Lounsbury (-1:11), Cam Arnett (-0:55), Ruth Marty (-0:29) and Sophie Stecha (-0:21). Along with Devi Duerst, Delaney Karls, Eve MacLean, Steffi Dopp, Alaina Smith and Elena Marunde, the Junior Varsity ladies place 2nd out of the other 34 teams present. The result leaves the young gals walking tall.

Landon Schneeberg, Collin Blum, Ben Collins and Ian Vinson (first race) run within seconds of their best times with Linden Lounsbury (-1:34) showing the biggest improvement. They finish 13th of 34 teams.

All the Varsity guys turn over season bests as Tommy Nelson (17:13), Evan Guenther (17:29), Brayden Ryan (18:28), Grayson Rodefeld (18:52), Ian Schwartzlow (19:24), Beckett Malaise (20:22), and Tanner Gardner (20:24) finish just behind Monroe and Mount Horeb. Dodgeville-Mineral Point easily finishes first among the large D2 schools.

The Dodgeville-Mineral Point gals dominate the day, but our NGM girls cross the line ahead of Mount Horeb, Monroe and all other D2 schools by each running season, and in some cases lifetime, bests. Lily Maynard drops 29 seconds (20:28) to lead the team. Dayna Karls (20:53) shaves 50, Annika Ziperski (21:22) sheds 1 minute 38, Mel Fink (22:16) goes 28 faster, Emma Martinson (22:25) loses 34, Lucy Melvin (22:44) releases 11 and Tenley Faber (23:13) dissipates 5 ticks off the clock.

Boy's Captain, Evan Guenther, summarizes the day, "Facing many teams from our sectional, it was interesting to see how we stacked up against all these other runners. We had some of our quickest times of the season so far, and I'm excited to see how we progress."

Saturday the New Glarus-Monticello CC teams compete at the interesting, but hillier, Belleville course. Or, as they say in French Town, plus vallonné.
