Liam is pictured here with the giant sunflower that he and his Nana grew with a seed that came from a sunflower growing kit provided by the New Glarus Public Library.
The New Glarus Public Library provided sunflower growing kits for preschoolers as part of a sunflower-themed storytime earlier this summer.
Romaine Holland stated, "The library provided project bags throughout COVID-19 and has continued and in this particular bag were a couple of sunflower seeds and all the things to get them started in a cup! When the plants became too large for in the house, we planted two in the ground but Liam was rather sad the next day after transplanting, as a squirrel or rabbit ate all of one of them, but as you can see the other seedling grew to a large beautiful sunflower!"
Holland continued, "Thank you so much for all the stories and projects, he has enjoyed doing them all, he even thought maybe the sunflower could be Jack's bean stalk (the last story Miss Brooke read in the Tail and Tales summer series)! He also thought it took a long time for the S'more to cook (another project)! You have done an amazing job and thanks for all the work, care and love you do for all the library kids!"
Liam and his Nana (Kathy Holland) and his mom have enjoyed these projects all summer.
Weekly preschool crafts will return in September, available first-come first-served at the library. Special holiday-themed crafts will be available to school-agers and teens in October and December.
