Raiders are Conference Champions

The Sugar River Raiders girls soccer team played Lake Mills in a Capitol Conference match on June 1st, winning 4-0. According to Coach John Ziperski, the win earned the Raiders the Conference Championship for the season.
Bella Brenkman, assisted by Jaylynn Benson scored a goal in the first half. In the second half, Francesca Schiro, assisted by Jaylynn Benson, Callie Smith, assisted by Kirsten Krantz, and Jaylynn Benson, assisted by Bella Brenkman, scored goals.
On June 3rd, the Raiders took on Luther Prep and shut them out 5-0. That completes their fourth consecutive sweep of conference foes and the second season where they shut out every single one of their conference opponents.
First half goals were scored by Francesca Schiro and Jaylynn Benson, assisted by Regyn Jelle. In the second half, goals were scored by Jenna Gentilli, assisted by Madi Winterburn, and two goals by Jaylynn Benson, assisted by Paige Leonard.
Morgan Thompson had 2 saves at GK, while Kaitlyn Peterson had 1.
Sugar River ends their regular season with a conference record of 7-0, and an overall record of 11-1-1. They are seeded #1 for the WIAA Division 3 Sectionals, and have received a round one bye. On June 10th, they will host #8 seeded Jefferson. The winner will go on to play the winner of the #5 Edgerton vs #4 Dodgeville/Mineral Point match on Saturday, June 12th, at a location to be determined.
